Stay Connected: Understanding Our Communication Channels
At Dallastown Area School District, your safety and preparedness are paramount. We utilize a comprehensive system of communication channels to ensure you receive timely and critical information, especially concerning school operations and emergencies. This page details how we communicate and how you can ensure you're always connected.
Automated Communications (Phone, Email, Text):
Our automated system is a primary tool for general information, as well as crucial delay or cancellation notifications.
-
Receive Text Messages: Opt-in for essential text alerts by simply texting "Y" to 67587.
-
Verify Your Contact Information: If you are not receiving automated phone calls or emails, please contact your child’s school directly to verify or update your student's name, school, and the phone number/email address you wish to add or delete.
Weather-Related School Closing/Delay Information:
The safety of our children and staff is always our top priority when making decisions about school schedules due to weather.
-
School Closings: Assume school is in session unless an announcement is made. Decisions are typically made by 5:45 a.m., but may be later if conditions worsen.
-
Two-Hour Delays: Schools will open two hours after normal start time, and buses will run two hours later.
-
Early Dismissals: Middle and high schools will dismiss first. We aim to provide as much advance notice as possible for childcare arrangements.
How We Communicate Decisions:
Once a decision is made, we use multiple avenues for rapid notification:
-
Automated Phone System: Calls to all home, cell, and work numbers, plus emails.
-
District Website: Closing information is always posted prominently on the Dallastown Area School District homepage.
-
Social Media: Information is shared on the District’s Facebook and Twitter pages. (Please note: Social media may sometimes update slightly faster than automated calls due to processing times.)
-
Local Media: Details are also reported to local radio and television stations.
We encourage all families to understand these procedures and ensure their contact information is current to remain fully informed and prepared.
