School Performance Profile

 The Pennsylvania Department of Education released the 2016 Pennsylvania Performance Profile (SPP) for each school in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The public site, located at, provides you with an academic performance score for all public schools in the state. This performance score is designed with several purposes in mind: 

  • To inform the public of school performance
  • To provide a building level score for educators as part of their evaluation system
  • To allow the public to compare schools across the state
  • To give schools a methodology to analyze their strengths and areas of opportunity

The School Performance Profile scoring system is based on a 100-point system in which each individual school receives a rating.  Schools may earn extra credit points beyond the 100 points for students who have earned advanced scores on state, industry and Advanced Placement exams.  Many data points contribute to the academic score.  These data points are categorized into five areas.                                                                                                                                                       

The first three areas represent 50 percent of the school academic performance score:
  • Indicators of Academic Achievement - Include PSSA/Keystone performance, industry standards-based competency assessments, grade three reading proficiency, and SAT/ACT college ready benchmarks.
  • Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap - All student scores are used to define how well a school is making progress toward proficiency
  • Indicators of Closing the Achievement Gap - Historically Underperforming Student scores are used to define how well a school is making progress toward proficiency.  The high needs students are students who have historically not demonstrated proficiency.

The next area represents 40 percent of the school academic performance score:

  • Indicators of Academic Growth/PVAAS - Measures the school's impact on the academic progress of groups of students from year to year.

The last category represents 10 percent of the school academic performance score:

  • Other Academic Indicators - Considers factors that contribute to student achievement such as graduation rate, promotion rate, and attendance rate.

Schools may earn up to 7 additional points via Extra Credit for Advanced Achievement based upon advanced performance on the PSSA, Keystone or industry assessments, as well as for students earning a 3 or higher on an Advanced Placement exam or a 4 or higher on an International Baccalaureate exam.

Note:  The SPP for the 2012-2013 school year did not include a calculation for closing the achievement gap.  The factor was included in the 2013-2014 SPP for science only.  Beginning in 2015- 2016, the closing the achievement gap calculation includes reading, math and science. 

 The Dallastown Area School District results include:

  • Dallastown Elementary: 98.1
  • Loganville-Springfield: 88.0
  • Leaders Heights: 83.3
  • Ore Valley: 86.7
  • York Township: 70.8
  • Intermediate: 82.6
  • Middle School: 68.2
  • High School: 93.0

Our results are impressive:

Dallastown Elementary received the highest score of all schools in the county.

Dallastown Area High School received the highest high school score in the county.

Dallastown Area Intermediate School received the highest intermediate school score in the county.

Dallastown Area Middle School received the second highest middle school score in the county.

Dallastown K-3 schools performed extremely well in comparison to their county counterparts.
